Descendants of Simon Dean

Generation No. 1

1.  SIMON DEANE was born Abt. 1540 in Holdenhurst, and died 1608 in Holdenhurst.  He married MARY - (DEAN).  She died in 1613.

Child of SIMON DEANE and MARY (DEAN) is:

2.                i.    UNKNOWN DEAN.

Generation No. 2

2.  UNKNOWN DEAN (SIMON DEANE) He married UNKNOWN.

Notes for UNKNOWN DEAN:

The link to the successive Deans is slightly tenuous but more than likely is correct.  The - for the time - continuation of the, then,  unusual name Simon is the likely link. ( Source Colin Dean,  Dorchester.)

Child of UNKNOWN DEAN and UNKNOWN are possibly:

3.                i.    SIMON DEAN, b. 1644, Wimborne Parish; d. 1729, Christchurch.

Generation No. 3

3.  SIMON DEAN (UNKNOWN, SIMON DEANE) was born 1644 in Wimborne Parish, and died 1729 in Christchurch.  He married DOROTHY (UNKNOWN) Unknown.  She died 1813 in (Not known.)

Notes for SIMON DEAN:

This Simon listed here does not have a proven connection to the previous Simon,  some details shown below, but First names were very few within families in those bygone days and were re-used,  often when the first holder of the name had died.

SIMON DEAN (E) (c1540-1608) and MARY (?? -1613)

The name Simon had not appeared earlier in the Basingstoke family or at Sopley, but it appeared in later generations of the Holdenhurst Deans. Simon died in 1608 at Holdenhurst and left a will. He had earlier appeared as an executor in both the wills of Nicholas 1592 and Agnes 1599 who both died at Holdenhurst, so was clearly related. His parents, perhaps? His will identified wife Mary, Brother Thomas, sons Robert, John, Nicholas and Richard, daughters Grace and Alice. He was clearly a man of substance for apart from leaving furniture, household goods and farm equipment to an assortment of family relations and servants, he also left money to the churches at Holdenhurst and Christchurch. He also mentioned property at Townsend and Westfield, the former at least being at Holdenhurst.

Generation No. 4

1.  THOMAS DEAN was born Abt. 1620.  He married JANE GODDARD (DEAN).  She was born Abt. 1620.

 Notes for THOMAS DEAN:

The relationship is not absolutely certain. William could just possibly have been the son of Thomas of Wimborne but more research would need to be done to prove the relationship.

3.                i.    WILLIAM DEAN, b. 1689, Wimborne; d. 1752, Christchurch.

Generation No. 6

3.  WILLIAM3 DEAN was born 1689 in Wimborne, and died 1752 in Christchurch.  He married ELIZABETH HOOKEY (DEAN) 1716 in Holdenhurst.  She was born in Parish of Wimborne, and died 1727.

Notes for WILLIAM DEAN:

This would appear to be a more certain relationship. Colin Dean says that William would have had to be born in about 1695 to be able to marry Elizabeth in 1716 so some discrepancy here.  There are no mentions in the Holdenhurst & Christchurch registers but in Wimborne Parish Church is "William of William junior" baptised in 1689.  When Elizabeth died in 1748 William was referred to as "William junior" (his son) so presumably father, William senior, was alive aged 59.  He seems to be the William buried in Christchurch 1n 1752 when he would have been 63.
